Snoring is a common problem found in both men and women. It will cause many embarrassing moments in your life. The incidence of snoring increases with an increase in the age. There are many factors that cause snoring. It can be physical obstruction of nose or throat, throat swelling, obesity or improper sleeping positions. Snoring occurs when the soft palate starts to flutter when air passes around it.
Snoring can make you completely hopeless in certain moments. There are many cases of break ups by the partner due to the snoring habit of their better half. In some cases, mild changes in your lifestyle or food habits will be enough for preventing snoring. There are some easy tips that can help you stop snoring. Among these tips to stop snoring, management of foods comes in an important place.
Studies have proved that your food habit can contribute to a great extend for your snoring problem. Here are some facts about the relation of food and snoring. Knowing this will help you to plan your diet schedule.
No big meals: Going to bed after having a heavy meal should be avoided. It is better to spend some time before going to bed after a meal. You can go for a walk, so that the food will get digested faster. Avoiding night time heavy foods will prevent snoring.
Honey:  Honey is one of the very effective foods to stop snoring. Honey has anti-inflammatory, and anti-microbial properties that will help in preventing any congestion of the air passage. This will reduce the swelling in your throat.
Fish rather that red meat: Red meat is often a culprit for initiating snoring. You may try replacing your red meat dishes with fish as one of the foods to prevent snoring. Red meat contains saturated fat, which can cause spasms in the arteries resulting in inflammations. This may cause throat swelling.
Olive Oil:  Consuming saturated oils can cause acid reflux. The resulting inflammation of the oesophagus due to the acidity can contribute to snoring.  Olive oil can reduce crowding in the throat from the soft palate to the larynx and act as one of the foods to stop snoring.
Tea:   Tea can be considered as one of the most effective foods to prevent snoring. It helps in decreasing congestion of the throat. Try Chamomile tea, green tea, mint tea and common black tea. You can add lemon and honey for a better result to stop snoring.
Soy Milk: It is a known fact that cow’s milk will promote snoring, in people who have lactose intolerance.  This may promote congestion of the nasal passages and increases snoring.  It also causes increased mucous production. Using soy milk as one of the foods to prevent snoring is a good option.
Avoid alcohol: None of the tips for reducing snoring will work if you have the habit of consuming alcohol. Alcohol will depress the central nervous system, which will in turn result in relaxed throat muscles.  Along with taking foods that prevent snoring, give importance to clean habits also.
Avoid dairy products: If you want to follow a diet with foods that prevent snoring, cut off dairy products from your list. Dairy products can cause snoring. If you are consuming dairy products, make sure that you go to bed only 3-4 hours after that.
