Signs Of High Calcium In Body

Calcium is a mineral, essential to maintain your teeth and bones strong. It also plays an important role in muscle contraction, hormone production and maintaining proper brain and nerve functioning. But high calcium level can interfere with all these processes by disrupting the normal body balance. Hypercalcemia is a condition in which the calcium level in your blood is above normal. The normal range of calcium in your body is 9 – 11 mg/dl.

Signs and symptoms of hypercalcemia may range from
mild to severe. Mild hypercalcemia will not present any signs or symptoms in most cases. Signs of moderate to severe increase in calcium is presented in the following ways depending on the organ which is affected.
1.      Vomiting:  Gastrointestinal symptoms including nausea and vomiting are considered the result of depressive action of hypercalcemia on the autonomic nervous system.
2.      Abnormal heart rhythms: This occurs with acute increase in calcium levels. Elevated calcium cause  abnormal electrical impulses in the heart and cause arrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythms). Significant hypercalcemia can cause ECG changes mimicking an acute myocardial infarction.
3.      Polyuria: The term polyuria refers to increased amount of urine formation. Hypercalcemia causes tubular defect in the kidney, resulting in polyuria.
4.      Constipation: Since increased calcium promotes excess production of urine, the dehydration due to polyuria  will result in constipation. Decreased fluid intake will make the condition worse.
5.      Kidney stones: As a consequence of long-term hypercalcemia, calcium phosphate crystals will precipitate to form renal calculi, which is commonly referred as kidney stones. Blockage caused by stone can lead to kidney damage, and passing a stone can be extremely painful.
6.      Excessive thirst:  This is associated with excessive fluid loss due to increased urine formation. Other signs like dry skin and cracked     lips are also seen due to improper balance between water intake and output.
7.      Peptic ulcer:  Hypercalcemia can increase gastrin production. This will cause increased acidity resulting in  peptic ulcers.
8.      Psychotic symptoms: Calcium ions have a major role in neurotransmission. Hypercalcemia causes  personality changes and other psychotic symptoms like confusion, hallucination, loss of memory or depression.
9.      Fatigue and muscle weakness:  Fatigue, muscle weakness and sluggish reflexes in muscle groups are common in patients with hypercalcemia. This occurs due to decrease in neuronal excitability with increased calcium ions, which leads to hypotonicity of smooth and striated muscle.
10.  Bone related symptoms: Since calcium is a closely associated mineral with bones, its increase will affect bone severely. Fractures, skeletal deformities, curving of spine and pain are the most common among them.
11.  Coma: Severe hypercalcemia above 15–16 mg/dl is considered a medical emergency which will result in  a coma.
Even though hypercalcemia associated with conditions like cancer cannot be cured, the prognosis is excellent for most other causes, if the underlying cause is diagnosed and treated properly.

Foods To Reduce Excessive Sweating

Sweating is a normal and essential process to regulate the body temperature and excrete waste through the skin. Sweating is controlled by the sweat glands. There are two types of sweat glands. The eccrine glands are those that are found all over your body and apocrine gland are those that are found mainly in your hair follicles. Few people tend to sweat more when they workout or indulge in other physical activities; similar to the response to emotional situations that make them nervous, angry, afraid.
There are millions of sweat glands all over your body. However, more sweat glands are concentrated on the forehead, armpits, palms and the soles of feet. Excessive sweating technically known as hyperhidrosis is a condition that is commonly faced by many people. Smelly sweat is another embarrassing problem.
As summer is coming closer, we need to be more careful as sweating is most common in this hot season. Proper hygiene can help overcome this embarrassing problem. Also, there are some other effective ways to treat excessive sweating by making some changes in your food list. Since sweating is associated with the digestive and nervous system, your diet plays an important role in controlling the sweating process.

1.      Water: Drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated is the easiest and simplest way to reduce sweat. When your body is properly hydrated, it won’t have to work so hard to regulate your body temperature. This may sound different, but intake of more water will help in reducing sweating.

5.      Oat meal: Oats is rich in fiber and grains with low fat content. It will digest fast and will help maintaining your overall health. Prefer oat meal because increased fat content in your food will cause excessive sweating.
6.      Peppermint: Peppermint taken as teas or juice can help regulate sweating by calming the nerves and soothing anxiety. Some other herbs wit same effect are sage and asparagus.
7.      Tomato: Many vitamins and minerals, such as potassium and magnesium, are found in tomato juice. Start taking raw tomato daily or drinking a cup of tomato juice and feel the difference.
8.      Almonds: Almonds are rich source of magnesium which will help in digestion and strengthening of immune system. Other magnesium rich foods that can reduce sweating are pumpkins, spinach and soy beans.
9.      Sage:  It helps to regulate the nervous system, thereby control the production of sweat. Drink two cups of sage tea for a few days and you will notice a tremendous change. You can take it in tincture or extract form as well.
10.  Watermelon: Taking water melon is an excellent idea because it is a good source of fiber and water helping in digestion and remaining hydrated. Vitamin B in watermelon is good for maintaining efficient metabolic functioning and inter-nerve communication.

Along with including these in your diet, take care to avoid some foods that can cause excessive sweating like coffee, cola drinks, black tea, chocolates, garlic, onions and spicy foods. Try these dietary tips and from this point on your life could never be the same again.

Hair Care For A Cool Summer

If you are a person who wants to keep your hair beautiful, then definitely you will be worrying about your hair during summers. Summer sunny days bring you fun and excitement in the outdoors. But along with this pleasant climate comes some unpleasant hair problems. As the season changes, you have to change your hair routines as well. All of us know that we have to give extra protection to our skin to resist the sun. It is the same in case of hair as well.

If you are looking forward to a healthy hair, you should be more trustworthy and straightforward towards your hair. Treat it with a simple and hygienic hair care summer routine. Giving some extra care in this summer will keep your hair beautiful and healthy throughout the year. Nobody wants to compromise with their hair. So here are some summer hair care tips to keep your hair stunningly adorable without changing any of your summer regimens.

Wash your hair regularly: Washing your hair is the most important care tip to follow. It is summer, and all the dust and dirt tend to accumulate on your hair when it mixes with your sweat. Washing your hair will help to keep your scalp and hair clean.

Use a shampoo: It is important to change to a more moisturising shampoo in summer. Do not think that hard shampoo or soap will remove dirt from your hair. It will make your hair dry and brittle. Use a mild shampoo.

Use a conditioner: Deep conditioning is important for your hair, especially in summer days. This will keep your hair smooth and shiny. It will help to protect your hair from becoming sticky due to excessive sweating.

Hydrate yourself: Drinking plenty of water is important in the summer so as to replace the lost water from your body. This is good for your hair as well.

Go natural: Give a break to chemical and heat treatments in the summer. Hair tends to be moisture deprived in the summer and use of harsh chemicals will make your hair brittle and weak. Consider using natural hair care products.

Manage hair splits: Split ends are found to be more common in summer as the hair tends to be dry. This will ruin all the efforts you made to keep your hair stylish. Cut the split ends. After cutting apply some coconut oil to the hair tip.

Oil massage: Massaging your scalp with oil is very important in summer. This will remove all the dust and dirt from your hair. Oil massaging will increase the blood flow to your scalp and strengthen hair roots. Doing this before using a shampoo will keep your hair smooth.

Cover up: If you cannot avoid being in sun for a long time, then the next best option is to cover your hair. Use a scarf or hat to protect your hair from direct sun. But take care not to allow sweat to stay for a long time.

Use a sunscreen: If you are using sunscreen for your body, then why not for your hair? Using a sunscreen will give extra protection to your hair.

Use shower caps: In this hot summer, you may feel it soothing to spend time in water. But do not forget to use a shower cap when your hair is exposed to sea water or water with chlorine content.

Parenting Tips To Discipline Your Child

http://www.boldsky.com/pregnancy-parenting/kids/2013/parenting-tips-to-discipline-child-032824.html

Parenting is both challenging and rewarding. Getting your child disciplined is not a difficult job, if you have good planning, creativity and timing. If you are planning to take an initiative to implement discipline measures on your kids, you will definitely find it difficult to get the right choices. The first step of disciplining should start from the family and you should be consistent about its execution. But at the same time, it is important not to let your kids feel that you are trying to change, restrict or abolish any of their habits.

Disciplining is not always restriction. It should be positive and motivating. It should teach the child to think and act. Do not expect that you can change an already established bad habit of your kid with one or two trials. It will take time. So, it is always better to make them disciplined from an early stage onwards. Disciplining techniques vary with the age of kids, but here are some general guidelines for making your children well disciplined. Try it out.

Parenting Tips To Discipline Your Child

1.  Prefer not to spank: Spanking may not be a good choice to implement discipline. In most cases, children may not be able to correlate their behaviour to your punishments.  They will not understand the reason for getting punished and they will repeat it. Moreover, it may make the child stubborn.

2.  Let them know the reason of your ‘no’:  Explain your reason for saying no to anything and be sure that your child understands it correctly. This will help them to think twice before repeating it.

3.  Be clear about the rules: You should have a clear idea about the rules you set for your kid. Changing your attitude and opinions according to your convenience will make the child confused. You and your partner should have the same opinion on a particular rule. Otherwise, the child will not understand which one to follow.

4.  Guide them, do not force: You should teach them to think wisely instead of forcing them to behave in the way you want. Forcing may work in one particular situation, but it will not make your child confident to face any other similar situation.

5.  Watch your commands: This is important since kids have a natural tendency to disobey commands. If you  are telling ‘John, come and sleep now, chances are more for them to obey you than telling  ‘John, go and sleep now’

6.  Understand child development: You should focus not only on your kid’s physical development, but also on their mental or emotional development. You should know what all things your child can understand and how they are processing information. This will help you to decide when to implement any disciplinary actions.

7.  Be a good example: No doubt, your children are learning from you. Try to follow good practices in your home. Remember that they are watching you always.

8.  Listen to them: Give chance and time for your kids, if they want to convey something about their deeds. Refusing to hear them will not make your effort to implement a discipline measure worthy.

9.  Say their name first: What grabs the attention of your kid the most is their name. Call them with affection first and then give the command. If you are telling “Keep that book on the table, john’ , he is not going to hear anything before his name.

10.  Let them free: Give your children all the freedom to live their life. But you have to keep watching them not to cross the limits. Remember not to make them feel that you are restricting them all the time.
